Automotive paint scratches refer to the linear marks appearing on the surface of the paint. The reasons for their occurrence are diverse and will be elaborated from the perspective of a professional automotive detailing expert.

Causes of Automotive Paint Scratches:

Improper Washing:
      - Scratches may result from washing the car with cleaning agents, water, or washing tools (such as sponges, towels, etc.) containing hard particles. Therefore, employing correct washing methods and using appropriate cleaning tools are crucial.

Inadequate Care:
      - During paint polishing, choosing a polishing disc with larger particles, applying excessive pressure, or making inadvertent polishing actions can leave scratches of varying degrees on the paint surface. Inappropriate wax selection, such as using abrasive wax on a new car, may produce circular scratches. Water sanding and polishing may also lead to critical scratches.

Scraping:
      - Scratches can be caused by contact with other vehicles while driving, scraping against roadside branches, and in adverse weather conditions where "flying sand and stones" lead to friction.

Types of Automotive Paint Scratches:

Surface Scratches:
      - Slight abrasions on the surface paint that penetrate the clear coat and affect the color coat without breaking through it. These scratches are considered superficial and typically manifest as fine linear traces.

Moderate Scratches:
      - The color coat has been penetrated but hasn't reached the primer. Moderate scratches usually present as more noticeable lines that may impact the overall appearance of the paint.

Deep Scratches:
      - The primer has been breached, revealing the metal surface of the vehicle. This type of scratch is more severe, not only affecting the aesthetic aspect but also posing a risk of further damage by exposing the primer layer.

In the field of automotive detailing, understanding the causes and types of scratches is crucial for implementing the correct repair and protective measures. Through proper care and maintenance, the occurrence of paint scratches can be minimized to a great extent.
